Great Mexican Food in North OC

by Demo Directory on 12/03/2011 - 03:54 pm
Category: Mexican Food

Tucked away in an assuming retail center just off of Carbon Canyon Rd. is the small but amazing little Mexican restaurant Sol de Mexico.  The inside of this casual eatery is quite small albeit cozy, but they have also added a few tables on the covered patio outside to increase capacity slightly. As soon as you are seated, a server brings your table thick and crunchy tortilla chips along with a mini mortar filled with salsa (both chips and salsa are freshly made in-house). They are some of the best chips and salsa you will ever try.
The menu is filled with customary Mexican food items (tacos, enchiladas, rellenos, etc.), and all are made with the freshest ingredients from family recipes ...

Is Anaheim home to OC's best chicken?

When somebody asks for great roasted chicken two restaurants come to mind- and ironically they’re both in Anaheim.  Rosine’s Mediterranean in Anaheim Hills has been serving up Mediterranean rotisserie chicken since 1995. The quaint little restaurant is known for their fresh Mediterranean fare, and their chicken is available for lunch, dinner, and take out.  Rosine’s has a variety of Mediterranean selections in addition to their chicken (the walnut caviar and the hummus are both amazing), and they have an excellent wine list for diners.

On the opposite side of Anaheim hidden in a little strip mall on Ball Road sits the Zagat rated Zankou chicken. Z ...

"Beast" of BBQ in Anaheim

by Demo Directory on 07/06/2011 - 12:15 am
Category: BBQ

There are plenty of restaurants serving up barbecue in Orange County, but only one place is dishing out a BBQ sandwich so big it’s aptly named “The Beast.” Anaheim’s own Blake’s Place has created a gastronomic monster of a sandwich weighing in at over two and a half pounds. The ginormous, toasted homemade bun is piled high with smoked pulled pork, pulled BBQ chicken, chopped beef brisket, cole slaw, pickles, sliced red onion and Blake’s very own BBQ sauce.
It’s a massive but delicious compilation of BBQ goodness, but if you want good BBQ and your appetite hasn’t quite hit the level of conquering “The Beast”, the menu ...

Fried Foods and Rattlesnake Sausage

by Demo Directory on 07/01/2011 - 07:13 am
Category: Unique Foods

Hidden amidst the flurry of downtown Fullerton hot spots and not spots is a small but amazing little restaurant/pub dishing out some unique and tasty casual fare.  Unlike the status quo tavern menus of burgers and fries (they do have some pretty good sweet potato fries though), Joe’s pushes the limits of culinary creativity by offering an amazing array of sausages, fried stuff, and sandwiches.
Fried appetizer offerings vary from Kermit’s Legs to a large sampler platter of fried pickles, pepperoni chips, and cheese aptly and fondly referred to as “fried junk”.
Entrees range from a gigantic turkey leg rivaling any county fair food, some healthier shrimp kebobs, a ...

Top 5 Fry Finds in OC

The debate over the best fries usually involves the cut of the potato and how (or in what) the spud is fried.  While that’s an apparent argument for the potato purist, there is a trend toward gastronomic madness that is elevating the fry far beyond the companion to ketchup or the occasional ranch dressing.  I’m talking about piling flavors of goodness upon the fries and catapulting them from a mere side dish to a belly busting indulgence.  Our current top five OC fry finds are # 5 Alerto’s in Westminster is home to the Carne Asada fries.  Crispy American fries are topped with carne asada, jalepenos, pico de gallo, beans, sour cream and cheese for ...

Waffle Sandwiches?

by Demo Directory on 02/15/2011 - 02:00 am

I recently found myself just north of Old Towne Orange and I stumbled upon a tiny corner establishment with a crowd and no parking. That’s usually a good sign, so I decided to stop in and find out about Bruxie.  The menu at Bruxie was full of both sweet and savory gourmet waffle sandwiches. I opted for the Smoked Salmon and Dill Cream Cheese sandwich but was also tempted by the Buttermilk Fried Chicken and Waffle (with optional maple syrup), and the Proscuitto and Gruyere sandwich.  The waffle itself was light and crispy (not sweet) and was filled with fresh cucumbers, smoked salmon, and a light cream cheese spread.  The combination was refreshing and satisfying. ...
